Exams and Grades:
There will be two in-class hour exams and a final.
In class exams are tenatively scheduled for:
Wednesday, Feb. 24 and Wednesday, April 6
- Hour exams count 30% each, the final 30%, the remaining 10%
will come from homeworks.
The final exam is scheduled for
Wednesday, May 4, 3:00-5:30PM (in this room).
- Assignments will consist of some individual assignments
and some team assignments. Homework teams of two people
will be formed. Each team should work together to complete each
team homework assignment. One paper should be submitted from each
team, with all team members names on the paper.
- For grades, generally a straight scale will be employed, that
is, I expect to use the following:
90 and above average - A |
80-89 - B |
70-79 - C |
60-69 - D |
below - F |
|
- Plus and minus grades within these ranges will be given at
my discretion.
The Emory Honor Code applies to all graded materials for this class.
OUR GOALS: Our goals are to
gain an insight into probability and statistics as well as
some topics in discrete mathematics. We will use the models of various
games and sports as our examples. We will see many unusual instances
where knowing some elementary mathematics can gain us an advantage
or insight into a topic. Applications will be stressed.
Policy: Cell phones and other e-devices are shut off when
you are in class.
